My daughter Pat died yesterday, totally unexpectedly following a routine heart procedure. She leaves us all broken hearted, and we will all miss her terribly in many ways. Life—family gatherings and drop-ins, will not be the same without her smiling countenance, and conversations will lose a certain zest that Pat gave them. I only had one daughter and she was the best. She helped me in so many ways I cannot count them. The month she and I spent cruising the bay of South Padre Island a year or so ago looms huge in the memory bank. I loved her. Her two sons and four brothers and everyone else loved her. We take comfort in the fact that she knew that when she left us.
