Kickass and singing to cows

Kickass, the doorstop dog, hears—frequently, the keeper’s lament about not having made music a larger part of his life.

The early indications were that his high volume singing to the cows was well received whether they were tightly restricted in individual stalls or meandering up the lane ahead of the keeper as he rode his pony behind them and sang a Roy Rogers version of “Happy Trails” loud enough to be heard by the neighbor’s cows.

Once having made the performance grade with cows, it should have been an easy step up for the keeper to take his talent to more advanced audiences. But except for occasional beer-fueled barroom solos, the keeper has not had the guts to sing for an audience with more musical taste than cows.

An exception would be Phyllis whose occasional response to the keeper breaking into rare song is to ask, “Are you all right?”
