Kickass and solstice bonfire
Kickass, the doorstop dog, and the keeper are trying to decide just how to participate in the Mazomanie solstice bonfire which has added a “polar plunge” feature to the event that takes place Dec. 21 down by the bridge over Black Earth Creek. The keeper has experienced the thrill of immersion in the creek from falling while wade fishing for trout, and he has also attended previous solstice events where he once stood too close to the flames and some of his clothing was scorched. These experiences have him thinking of a “senior” approach this year whereby he sits with Phyllis in a comfortable lawn chair near–but not too close to the fire, with a brandy flask in hand, while ogling those who jump into the creek and then, by necessity, into the fire. Under normal circumstances, Kickass would accompany the keeper, but this year he plans to nap in front of the home fireplace on Dec. 21, and 22 and 23 and 24 and 25 and………., proving yet again that dogs are smarter than people.
