Kickass and the common cold

Kickass, the doorstop dog, in an effort to help his keeper, would like some input as to the appropriate duration of the self-pitying stage for someone catching a cold.  There may be reason to believe the keeper is not only in violation from a time standpoint but also in the degree of intensity.
