Kickass and the one-day summer
Kickass, the doorstop dog, was out on the bluff with the keeper and Phyllis to enjoy the summer of 2019 which occurred on Apr. 8 and was a wonderful thing to behold, particularly the pasque flowers that had poked up through the prairie grass like defiant little fairies. With Kim and Dick Rice there was a summer celebration of sorts up on top where you could see how summer was sparkling on the surface of rejuvenated Lake Marion and sweeping across the flat landscape to edge toward the unglaciated hills of the driftless area. There was a sip of brandy from the keeper’s medicinal flask, and then the four of them retreated to shelter because the Wisconsin one-day summer was almost over and there was the shadow of a glacier off to the north.
