Kickass and the park purchase

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper barely remembers how to rant about positive things, so there was some verbal fumbling with the good news this week that the Wisconsin DNR Board approved the $1.64 million purchase of 220 acres to be added to Devil’s Lake State Park.

With 2.1 million visitors last year, Devil’s Lake is the state’s most popular park, and the highland addition to its southwest corner will offer all kinds of added outdoor recreational opportunity.

The purchase was financed through the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program; and the keeper recalls pleasant personal experiences with the two former outstanding governors; and he remembers the days when the program was being formed to continue Wisconsin’s invaluable, long-term efforts to put consideration of the public at the forefront of political action.

Those were the days, my friend.  We thought they’d never end……and maybe–despite outrageous gerrymandered narcissists’ efforts–they haven’t, not totally anyway.

The keeper and Phyllis plan to visit Devil’s Lake soon, Phyllis to hike with a scheduled new hip joint, and the keeper to tell the park’s ubiquitous Turkey vultures to give it up in his vicinity!
