Kickass and the santa suit

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that during some of his earlier journalism days the keeper was assigned by Wis State Jour. city editor Glenn Miller to act in  various contrived roles to produce a Christmas themed story.  One year it was wearing a Santa suit and attempting to hitchhike along highway 12 just west of Sauk City.  As he recalls rides were sparse until a man driving between taverns stopped and shouted, “Jump in, Santa and we’ll go have a beer.”  On another occasion in Santa get-up, the keeper—thinking to give the neighborhood kids a thrill, peeked in a few of his neighbors’ windows one night and one of the neighbors called the police.  Those were risky times to be a journalist, the keeper says, but adds, “Damn, they were fun.”
