Kickass election eve party
Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper’s assessment of what seemed to be an election-day eve party at a sprawling country supper club where hundreds of jabbering, laughing people drank and crowded up to the smorgasbord as an “oompa” band belted out a polka beat.
It was a rather unbelievable scene isolated out there in the middle of farm country—so many people, clustered in family and friendship groups in the complex of dimly lit rooms, everyone seemingly in high spirits and anxious to share jokes and gossip.
The keeper chose to think of it as a testimony to human decency, compassion and delight in life that is pervasive and undeniable, even on a cold and rainy November night with tomorrow’s election looming like a bank of dark clouds, or maybe a ray of sunshine.
