Kickass goodbye to decency

Kickass, the doorstop dog, says there is something a little eerie in the inclination to extend the goodbye to Sen. McCain, as if we cannot let go of the symbol of decency he represented, particularly in the face of the moral breakdown that must now be dealt with in Washington.

McCain was the first to admit he was not a perfect person, but simply saying such a thing made him as close to perfect as any one of us will get.  And Hemingway was McCain’s favorite writer.

That makes him especially revered by those of us who are rowing the boat with The Old Man and the Sea.
