Kickass morel movement
Kickass, the doorstop dog, says his keeper is explaining his morel mushroom strikeouts with the claim that the morels are moving away from him and hiding as he approaches them. Yesterday he saw a morel under a May apple but when he bent to pick it up there was only one of last year’s dried up corncobs and the morel was gone. So another aspect is added to the mysterious world of fungi: by what means of locomotion does a mushroom move from one spot to another to become completely invisible to the likes of the keeper?
He will be out there again today trying to find the answer, and also hoping that somewhere under the May apples he runs into the tooth fairy because she and he have to talk about what “long in the tooth” really means as you stumble around on a steep wooded hillside when you could be home in your easy chair with a cup of coffee and the crossword puzzle.
