Kickass remembering the forgotten

Kickass, the doorstop dog, says we all deal with Memorial Day in our own way—his being to try to remember where he was yesterday—and in the keeper’s case it is to remember the two young men from Michigan in his Infantry platoon who were killed on the Korean observation post that the keeper’s squad had just vacated.

These two pals—they loved to laugh at each other’s jokes, were denied the joys of life that the keeper has experienced lo these many years and he thinks about those carefree platoon mates often.

Somewhere in Michigan somebody may remember them.  But it was all so long ago and in a ”forgotten” war, so the keeper’s memorializing seems increasingly important, at least to him.
