Kickass Sen. Thurmond

Kickass, the doorstop dog, says the Coretta Scott King letter that Sen. Elizabeth Warren tried to read before Mitch and other male senators told her to sit down and shut up, was not officially part of the Congressional Record because the late Sen. Strom Thurmond , the letter’s recipient, “forgot” to enter it back in 1986 when it was written.  Kickass says his keeper has a memory of meeting Sen. Thurmond in a Green Bay motel room when he summoned reporters to show off his new wife—22-year old Miss South Carolina .  Strom was 66 at the time. The lasting image is of the senator holding a pair of running shoes and telling reporters of his daily athletic prowess as he grinned at his bride.  She, the keeper reports, looked embarrassed, like a cute young raccoon that had somehow been treed by a decrepit old hound.

(Kickass likes it when the keeper uses dog metaphors.  Maybe he can come up with one for the Sen. Warren putdown by Mitch.  Something like: “It was as if an old bulldog crudely demonstrated that he was not housebroken.”)
