Kickass watches The Sting
Kickass, the doorstop dog, joined the keeper and Phyllis in watching the old movie “The Sting,” and shared their conclusion that it was a good thing to do: great acting by old favorites, remembering Paul Newman as an exemplary human being, relishing the old plot set-ups that pulled in the narcissistic wise guys, accepting the unlikelihood of Redford’s miraculous escapes, and loving the easy comradery between the cons. Watching the old flick was the best kind of therapy in a world caught up in a global con job that does not portend a satisfying resolution.
But it could happen. The keeper and his crowd could spit out the phony blood, get up and manhandle the villains, and walk out the door with the money.
If the keeper and Phyllis didn’t believe that possible, they would be joining the hapless victims of the political con job now in progress.
For now, however, they feel as if they are running into a dead-end alley with Redford.
Bring up the “Maple Leaf Rag” soundtrack, and pass the popcorn.
