Kickass and first grandchild

Kickass, the doorstop dog, choosing to join the keeper in ignoring the absurdities of the chaotic Covid world, dwells on the significance of Katie Stokes Rose’s recent birthday and the life-transforming impact of the arrival of a first grandchild.  The keeper sites his authority as having been a first grandchild, and adds the support of Phyllis who was also a “first.”

In their innocent arrivals, first grandchildren have no idea what they bring with them as it relates to creating new grandparents, who, up until that point, more or less thought of themselves as recently recovered from the junior prom and anxious for the next dance.  Then comes the likes of Katie, and……what the hell are you talking about-“Grandpa and Grandma!”  How totally absurd!  But isn’t she/he about the sweetest, smartest-looking little thing you have ever seen!

So it goes, Katie.  By way of softening the hard adjustment, your youthful grandma became “Nana,” and the keeper has been called “Pa-B” pretty much since the day or your arrival.  This is not an uncommon technique, blending fact and fiction to play the cards that life deals.

The keeper was doing some outdoor newspaper writing and was deep into trout fishing at the time of your birth, Katie, and described you in a column as a “19 incher,” which is a heckuva catch in anyone’s book.   And that’s what you were and have been since—a heckuva catch.

Lots of love, and a very happy birthday!
