Kickass adjusts to new year

Kickass, the doorstop dog, notes that the keeper and Phyllis, celebrated the arrival of the new year by finally wrestling the cork out of a long-stored bottle of champaign to find that its contents had gone bad and had to be dumped down the drain—perhaps symbolic of the departing year.

But it was a wonderful year in the only way that really matters—being around to be part of it, a fact that grows in significance with the accumulation of years.

The bonus of years that were first bestowed on the keeper and Phyllis three years ago on the Mazomanie hilltop, continue now as they view the new year from the 5thfloor of Vista West on Madison’s west side where there is a view of kids sledding down a distant hill.

For everyone, it is all about adjusting to the tumbling avalanche of years.  For the keeper and Phyllis that has meant moving away from the wonderful life on the Mazo hill, and the demands of dealing with its treacherous winter driveway, to the 5th floor view of the sledding kids, and the smugness that comes with knowing that winter’s snow and ice is someone else’s problem.

Bring on 2022!  The keeper and Phyllis are adjusted and ready!
