Kickass and the coup
Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports the keeper ready to pack his original Army duffle bag that somehow survived the years, and his mess kit of course, for the inevitable military coup required to stop the dictatorial vermin from doing their Hitler-like number on the US and buying the return of cruel economic slavery.
Such a drastic action is not as unthinkable as it once was before misery, suffering, poverty, imprisonment, death and programmed ignorance became real future outcomes for the majority of Americans.
Though his Ike jacket still hangs in a back closet, it has somehow shrunk to be “unbuttonable” and though it still bears the identifying medals and insignia of when the keeper was sent over to help save part of the Korean peninsula from bad government, he does not plan to wear it for any future fighting on behalf of basic human decency, compassion and a true democracy.
Once an enemy artillery shell buried the keeper in dirt and debris on a mountain top observation post which rendered him deaf for several days but otherwise was just another damn close call at the beginning of a long and wonderful life. Now as that life defies the odds and continues on into enjoyable nonagenarian days with Phyllis and family and friends, the keeper is ready to go to war again if that’s what it takes to preserve such wonderful lives for everyone.
He is not alone in that regard and waits for any possible call.
