Kickass makes it home again

Kickass, the doorstop dog, reports that the keeper, with the kind help of wife Phyllis, son Mike and granddaughter Sarah, has proven that you can go home again despite what Wolfe wrote, and you can meet up with cousins Pat and Ron and Barbara for a catch-up on clan news and quality memory jogging and you can prove once and for all with actual measurement that the keeper walked a mile and a half to a country school and it was uphill both ways. The school is long gone without a trace but the Yellow River hollow is still there in all its wild glory and keeper wallowed for a time in a flood of river memories. The first contact in the going-home adventure was with Kristie the ticket taker at the excellent historical museum who turned out to be the daughter of Rachel, one of the three people in the keeper’s eight grade graduating class.

The venture was uphill from there and gratitude is lavished on Sarah who put it all together.

The keeper adds that in that mile and a half trudge to school there was always a bitter cold wing blowing in your face, both coming and going!
