Kickass and cow manure

Kickass, the doorstop dog, joins the keeper in lauding the efforts of Henry Redman, writer for The Wisconsin Examiner, for his comprehensive story regarding the problems associated with cow manure disposal in the case of a factory farm in St. Croix county that wants to expand from 1,600 to 3,300 cows.

These dimensions of “Dairyland” are mindboggling to the keeper who grew up on a cozy 20-cow farm where the only caution in disposing of cow manure was not to throw a forkful into the wind when hand-spreading during a blizzard.

Redman’s very good story details the nature of remote-even foreign investors being the prime reason Wisconsin cow manure is handled as it is—profit over ground water quality is an unavoidable conclusion. This, historically, has meant gross violations of clean water rules, thousands of dead fish and contaminated well water.

The keeper tips his hat to Henry Redman and polishes up the “Bullshit” pin on his hatband.
